First and foremost, we at Milwaukee Area Paranormal Investigations are not "ghostbusters" as in we make no claims that we have any intention of removing any activity from your premises. Our goal and mission is to explore and investigate these occurrences so we may have a better understanding of what it is and isn't.
For many individuals experiencing a "haunting", they are fairly comfortable with sharing their living or work space. It becomes a part of their day to day life and are not bothered in the least.
But for others, they view the activity or presence as a real issue and want it to stop, or they consider moving into a new home or finding a different job.
So what should you do if you view the activity as bothersome?
There are no guarantees that any one thing may work, but often times the simplest actions are the most productive. Below is a list of some things that you may wish to try. As with anything, if you do not believe that it will work, it won't.
Speak to the entity out loud in a respectful manner. Explain to it that you live there now and he/she/it is doing things that bother you. Explain exactly what those things are in as much detail as you can muster. Ask the entity to please to stop.
Incense is used by many traditions and cultures to cleanse the space in which we live and work. You can purchase a smudge stick made from sage and other sweet herbs at many health food stores, or you can simply take your favorite scent. Herbs commonly used in incense for cleansing and purification are cedar, dragon's blood, cinnamon, frankincense, rosemary, sandalwood, kashmir, myrrh, sage, and mimosa. I favor dragon's blood & kashmir personally because I .love how they smell! Take your incense and light it. You will be walking through every room (including the basement and attic) so make sure you grab a plate or cup to catch the hot ashes from the incense (burning the house down is not a good way to get rid of any entities). As you walk through each room, make sure the smoke gets into every crevice and space. The idea behind the incense (asides from the cleaning properties of the herbs used) is to get the stagnant air moving and renew it with the incense smoke.
Salt is another wonderful substance favored for its cleansing properties to ward off negativity. Sea salt is best, but in a pinch common table salt works fine also. Grab your salt and sprinkle it onto your floors, by each door, every window, and concentrating on the rooms where you feel the most need. Let it sit and soak up any negativity for as long as you wish, then vacuum it up. Make sure you remove the vacuum bag or canister OUTSIDE into the garbage. Similarly, using any of the above listed herbs in this fashion may also work. (If using herbs and you have pets, make sure you know what can and can not be accidentally ingested, for your pets safety.)
Do a complete spring cleaning, regardless of what time of year it is. Wash those walls, scrub that floor, mop the ceiling, toss out the old and bring in the new. Open the windows to get clean, fresh air inside, rearrange your furniture, light some scented candles, take a shower or bath afterwards, and invite your best friends over for an evening of merriment.
Almost everybody has one or more items that are special to them and bring personal comfort. Maybe it's a favorite book, piece of jewelry, a stone or crystal, a piece of clothing, a childhood blanket, stuffed animal, a coin, or even a pet. Carry these items with you in a little pouch, along with a pinch of salt. (If it is a pet, take some loose fur or even a shed whisker.) It may not make the boogeyman go away, but it will work like a child's security blanket and you will feel better and comforted by holding these objects and keeping them close to you. I have a small velvet pouch where I keep fur from my cats, a tooth from my favorite kitty that had been knocked loose, some stones and pieces of bark that amuse me, salt, and a few other items that have always brought me to my happy place.
If you are of a religious persuasion, contact your local clergy and ask them to bless your home. You can also purchase (or make... depending on your religion) holy water and sprinkle it around your home saying positive, spiritual affirmations.
As a last resort, make an agreement or pact with whatever is disturbing you. i.e.: You stay on your side of the room and I'll stay on mine, You let me sleep from such and such hour and I'll let you make as much noise while I am at work, If you stop levitating the cat in front of my guest I'll stop freaking out and trying to get rid of you, etc. (Yes... having a good sense of humor can work!!!)
And with any or all of these methods, keep a positive attitude and do not show fear. Sometimes, just ignoring the situation will make it go away. And remember, if you do not believe that any of these methods will work for you, then chances are they will not.
