Pandora's Box
Milwaukee Area Paranormal Investigations
"Follow me into the shadows..."
There are two versions of the legend of Pandora's Box. One version tells us that box contained all kinds of misery. When Pandora opened the box a plague dispersed and doomed humanity to suffer ruin, insanity, and despair. She hastily closed the box to stop the plague but, pathetically, only Hope remained inside. In the other version the box held all of humanity's glories. When she opened the box progress, knowledge, and exaltation vanished into oblivion, forever lost to humanity.

When dealing with artifacts concerning the paranormal, you are, essentially playing with Pandora's Box. You never know what memories, emotions, or energies still linger on, etched into the very atoms of these items.  Or even who (or what) still possesses these things in a different existence? Once you open that box, you may not be able to close it quick enough.

Throughout our existence, humankind has held a fascination for wanting to hold solid proof of "life after death" existence in our hands.  So now the world has seen a growing trend of consumers purchasing "haunted" items from online auction sites, antique dealers, and even many of these  items  are  falsely labeled merely to attract attention and  further  the  seller's
listed on an auction site that promises you a "genuine" haunted, enchanted, or psychic item. Many of these sellers lure the buyer with words like "owned by a powerful witch/priestess", or "this such & such contains the spirit of so & so and will grant you any wish you desire." Also watch out for any "haunted" item that has a ridiculously high listing price. These sellers only want to cash in on this latest fad. An honest person will normally sell the item dirt cheap because they want it out of their possession as fast as possible. Of course, if the item for sale has value in and of itself, then you may expect to pay a higher amount.  The vast majority of haunted items for sale are fakes.

The doll's head was supposedly  involved in a train wreck back in the mid 1800's where many people perished in the burning wreckage. There is still debris melted into the porcelain and there is a faint scent of smoke and blood that can still be smelled.  The individual that we got this from commented that he would continually be woken in the night by the sound of a small child crying and screaming, "Mama pull me free." These cries would usually be accompanied with the sounds of something large crashing or banging around, with nothing seemingly out of place.

The mirror came from an old mansion in SE Wisconsin. When the house was being remodeled, many things were thrown out. One of these was the mirror. A worker brought it home thinking it might be a nice addition to the decor.  His young daughter frequently saw dark shapes and movement from inside the mirror. One night while preparing for bed, (she was now in her late teens) she saw a bright flash of light and something very large emerged, and approached her. She hid under her covers, too scared to move. When she looked out again, the "monster" had gone.

Please be wary of any item
And believe me... I was as disappointed as the next person when I saw the things that were being sold as haunted or cursed on one popular online auction site.  So the phrase "buyer beware" is very fitting.

But every once in a while, someone gets exactly what they wanted. Or so they thought. And now with the object in their possession, they discover they are unable to deal with the activity associated with the item(s) in question.  So they turn around and resell it to another brave buyer,or give it to an unsuspecting acquaintance, and the cycle continues again and again.
And so Pandora's Box was born.

Pandora's Box  is a final resting place of sorts for these unwanted "active" items.  Not everyone is capable of keeping a haunted item. There is no shame in that. These items can be quite unsettling in the hands of the inexperienced. We would like to see these items, particularly the ones filled with negativity, out of potential harm's way. To date, a few of the things in our safekeeping include a small doll's head (as pictured at the top of this page), and a large, rather creepy mirror.
